A great night under the Big Top at the Sheraton

I've got a fun job...this was an awards banquet for Kaiser Permanente, they had a Pirate Theme for the event and transformed the Pavilion at the Sheraton into something out of a "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie. After the awards were given out the 700 guests were let loose to dance or enjoy some of the interactive booths they had set up carnival style. Glow products are the thing right now and the sunglasses pictured above were highly sought after. A great crowd and a full dance floor made the night go quickly...sleeper hit of the evening was "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse!

A Beautiful Night at the Japanese Friendship Garden for Tony and Alicia!

Things are kind of crazy right now as I'm getting "Party Donuts" off the ground (more on that later) so I don't have as much time to tell you all the great things about this wedding as I'd like. The next couple of posts are going to have to be short and sweet as well. Let's just say Tony and Alicia were a blast, a great couple to work with from beginning to end...Liz Beck (Liz Beck Events) was the coordinator/designer and put together a great team for the evening. Haydee and her husband (Concepts Party Rentals) did an awesome job creating a great look including a sheer canopy over the patio and topped it off with the perfect linens. The finishing touches were the amazing floral arrangements created by Haydee De La Cruz (Haydees Creative Flowers). As you can tell by the photo above this was one heck of a party...we ended the night with one of Tony's favorites "Ziggy Stardust" as the newlyweds exited down a candle lit walk way!

DJ Mike,
Thank you so much for doing such a great job at our wedding! The dance floor was packed from the moment you started up to the very last minute. It was such a great party and we had the best time ever!
Thanks a million!

The La Jolla Womans Club...a Classic!

Built in 1914 the La Jolla Woman's Club is one of the oldest venues around and a great choice for Jennifer and Mark's reception. My only complaint about the location is it can be a bit dark but Entertainment at Large took care of that with a little uplighting, it's great low cost addition to warm up a room! There were about 130 guests and no problems keeping them on the dance floor. A fun couple and a great day!

This was a FUN reception!

99% of my receptions are fun and everbody has a great time but every once in a while I have one like Kent and Macie's! They were a great couple and the families and friends acted like they had known each other for years even though 1/2 came from New York and the other 1/2 Kentucky. The dance floor was packed the entire night and Rancho Valencia was rocking. It was a solid 10 as receptions go... photography was done by Tricia and Justin from Studio Duva, great shooters and fun to work with!

Dear Mike,
Thank you so much for the awesome music you provided at our reception. Everyone was dancing the whole time which is what we wanted! You helped make our wedding that much more special...thank you!
Best,
Macie & Kent

Love at the La Valencia!

It was a Valencia weekend for me, I started out at the La Valencia on Friday and then on to Rancho Valencia for my wedding on Saturday. Jaci and Mitch actually got married in Fiji two weeks earlier but wanted to have a reception here so all their friends could celebrate. It was a casual reception but a lot of fun, Jaci's dog even showed up to join in on the celebration. The food and service at LV was superb as always and the wedding cake created by Michele Coulon was to die for!

The UCSD Athena Pinnacle Awards

I was honored to be the auctioneer again this year for the Athena Pinncacle awards. Athena Pinnacle Awards are presented annually to individuals and organizations that, through the development and promotion of skilled and talented women, have had a significant impact within the San Diego technology, life science and health care sector. It was a great turnout and we raised some $$ to help deserving woman with scholarship opportunities. The big seller of the night was a trip to London and then on to Paris!

Sing a Long at MCAS Miramar!

The Marine Corp Air Station at Miramar is a favorite spot for corporate entertainment. This night started with a tour of the flight line and then dinner in the officers club. We even had a couple of the male guests serenade one of the female guests to a rousing rendition of "You've Lost that Loving Feeling!" All the proceeds from the events go to the Morale and Recreation fund for the troops stationed at the base.

Desert Golf & the B 17

I took a couple of days off to go see my favorite Aunt and Uncle over in Tuscon. Spent 3 days having fun in the sun and playing golf. Above is a shot of the Saguaro Cactus on the 17th tee!
I also treated myself to a little ride along in a WW 2 B 17 when it was in San Diego for a weekend, what an amazing aircraft and the history is unreal. It's a bit pricey for a 30 minute ride but something I recommend to anyone!

Congratulations to James and Kelly!

Kelly works for PRA one of my favorite meeting planners and I was thrilled when she asked me to be the DJ for her reception. She and James chose the Thursday Club as the site of the reception and what a great day they had for it. The weather was perfect and the view stunning looking out at the Pacific from atop the bluffs of Point Loma. James is Scottish and we had a few family members that can all the way from Scotland to celebrate with them...they know how to party! The hit of the night was "Mari's Wedding" a Van Morrison tune that you can kick up your heels to, we even had a guest in a traditional Scottish Kilt!!

Mike,
Wow, you did a great job at our reception! Now I know why you are our "Preferred DJ" at P.R.A. You were so professional, natural and kept everything going smoothly. Honestly I couldn't have been happier with the job you did. Thank you so much for making our wedding reception a success!
God Bless,
Kelly and James

Fun Under the Stars at Humphrey's by the Bay!

The lawn at Humphrey's by the Bay is not only a great concert venue but it makes for an awesome reception location. As you can see the colors were browns and oranges and that in right down to the groom and his guys shoes, Brown Converse High Tops! Mike and Laura are both in law enforcement and they had guests joining them from all over the country. These guys work hard and play hard, all in all a perfect day!! The food and service at Humphrey's was excellant as usual.

Raising some $$ for Cathedral Catholic High School!

Along with my work as a DJ I am also a charity auctioneer and have another company named "Fundraisers Only". I'm the auctioneer at about 15 charity events a year and not only do I love the excitement and energy of the auction it's great to be of service and help out some wonderful charities and organizations! Cathedral Catholics event was a big success, we had about 600 guests and some amazing auction items. A couple of the favorites were a Mediterranean Cruise, 32 tickets in a luxury suite for a Chargers game and a chance for your child to be "Principal" for a day! The event took place at the school and MSI had a great set with a 60 foot video screen.

The Del does it again!

Nicole and Michael came from Scottsdale, AZ. for destination wedding at the Hotel Del Coronado
and they couldn't have had a better night! The reception took place on the sundeck and the weather was absolutely fantastic. The coordinators for the wedding were Kelly and Brooke from Mint Weddings and as always they kept the event running smoothly. It was a laid back reception and a great time was had by all, the only downside of the sundeck is the party must end at 10 PM. Entertainment at Large is proud to be a preferred vendor at the Hotel Del Coronado!
